Why We Choose Grass-Fed Tallow

Choosing Grass-Fed Tallow is choosing a more natural approach to skincare. A slower approach - one that spans across generations. It's a skincare choice that has stood the test of time.

We created the slowmade collection to meet our own skincare needs - and wanted to share the goodness of Grass-Fed Tallow with you.

Do you know where your skincare comes from?

Our slowmade tallow balms are made with a base of just four ingredients:
Grass-Fed Tallow. Kalahari Melon Seed Oil. Beeswax. Essential Oils.

Our Tallow is sourced from trusted farmers, some of the best Grass-Fed beef producers in South Africa. Our Beeswax is from a farmer in Murraysburg. And we've chosen to incorporate Kalahari Melon Seed Oil because it's a unique oil that is native to Southern Africa.

When you choose slowmade, you're choosing a brand that values provenance, high-quality ingredients and skincare made the traditional way.

So, why Grass-Fed Tallow?

Everything that gets put onto your skin gets absorbed. Therefore, you should be choosing bio-compatible ingredients of the highest quality for your skin.

Tallow is known for being similar to own skin's own sebum and so is easily absorbed by skin, because it's recognized. Grass-Fed Tallow takes that a step further, because it is a higher quality and healthier fat source from a healthier cow. And so, the fat from a Grass-Fed animal is a higher quality compared to a commercially reared animal.

Grass-Fed cows provide the best fat. The fat becomes tallow through a rendering process to remove impurities, giving us a high-quality, completely natural and bio-compatible ingredient for our skincare. Our tallow is also a proudly South African ingredient.

The slowmade collection is a skincare brand all about doing things the slow(er) way. We partner with South African farmers who are farming to produce the best quality, which is a completely different approach than farming for scale or speed of production. It is also a slow process, and so when we say slowmade - we mean it.
